The Derek Oyston CHE Awards
In 2009, CHE initiated two awards, in memory of the late Derek Oyston of Gateshead, a most generous supporter of CHE.
The Derek Oyston CHE Film Award
The Derek Oyston CHE Film Award is awarded to the film screened at the London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival which most reflects the aims and objectives of CHE. The intention of the Award is that it will encourage filmmakers to make films which document the experience of campaigning and the continuing struggles for LGBT rights in the UK and around the world.

The Derek Oyston CHE Award, in conjunction with GALHA
The Derek Oyston CHE Award, is presented in conjunction with GALHA (the Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association) to a group or individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the aims and objectives of CHE.
The 2009 award, announced at the GALHA 30th anniversary event (also commemorating 40 years of CHE) on Friday 10th July was won by Sue Sanders.
